San Jose Earthquakes Forward Chris Wondolowski Voted MLS Player of the Month for September
NEW YORK (Thursday, October 4, 2012) San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski was voted Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for September of the 2012 MLS season.
Through five MLS matches in September, Wondolowski registered four goals and two assists, including a brace as a substitute in San Jose’s 2-2 draw with the Portland Timbers on September 19.
With 22 total strikes on the season, Wondolowski is the current leader in the Budweiser Golden Boot race.
The honor is Wondolowski’s third MLS Player of the Month accolade this season, having also picked up the award in April and June. This marks the first time in MLS history that a player has garnered three MLS Player of the Month awards in a single season.
The MLS Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
