On the growing prestige of the MLS All-Star Game:
The AT&T MLS All-Star Game has converted itself into a premier event on the world soccer calendar, and the competitive nature of the game has risen throughout the years. MLS has fared well in international competition and we believe that these types of games continue to showcase the wide talent that exists in our league.
On naming the hometown coach as the manager of the MLS All-Stars two years in a row:
We realized that flying in an All-Star coach from another city made it difficult for that coaching staff to get acclimated to the city and to the All-Stars. This will enable Peter and his staff to continue a regular training rhythm with the Union while also accommodating the All-Stars coming in. We think this puts us in the best competitive position reach success.
Phil Stoops, AT&T Director of Retail Sales for the Greater Philadelphia Market
On Philadelphia hosting the AT&T MLS-All Star Game:
Philly fans are truly some of the most passionate in the world, and their loyalty and support for the team are absolute, so there is no doubt that my fellow Sons of Ben and the rest of the Union fans who have been part of the sellout crowds here at the PPL Park will make Philadelphia the perfect city to host the AT&T MLS All Star Game.

We couldn’t have found a better or more authentic soccer man than Peter Novak to lead the Union and it’s an honor for us to have him and his technical staff lead the All-stars against Chelsea.

Peter Nowak, Philadelphia Union Team Manager and Executive Vice President
On coaching and Philadelphia hosting the All-Star Game:
It’s always a great honor to coach the All Star team and as Nick [Sakiewicz] mentioned, in 2006, a long time ago, we had this good game in Chicago vs. Chelsea. For me and the coaching staff, as I mentioned, this is something special, something special to lead the very talented MLS All-Star team. It’s not only about the game, but also the festivities that are going to be around Philadelphia and also the city of Chester for three days. I’m sure we’re going to all embrace the best, we’re going to see the great two teams playing and like I said, it’s an honor to be a part of this.
On coaching the MLS All-Star team:
It is always an honor to be a part of it, regardless of what’s going on in the League. It is always good to see the good and familiar faces, the players that you compete against, now they are on your side so it’s a good feeling as well. And playing against Chelsea who is in the semi-final of Champions League, which means that basically our top four teams in the world are playing right now, it’s a great opponent. It’s not just going to be an easy game, never was in an All-Star Game so you have got to be competitive, you have got to prepare the team. As Nelson [Rodriguez] said, we’ll work with the MLS office to accommodate the best players and then try and win the game.
On the MLS All-Star Roster:
From now until July, there will be enough time for the MLS office to accommodate the best players and make sure the game roster will be competitive enough to put a good game, a good plan together and then let the players enjoy the game. This is more about the festivities but also when you show up on the field, and you play against a good team, you have to bring the performance as well.
