Revolution’s Lee Nguyen Voted MLS Player of the Week

Midfielder scores twice against former club

NEW YORK(Monday, May 14, 2012) New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 10 of the 2012 MLS season. Nguyen scored two goals on Saturday in a 4-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

After Vancouver took an early lead, Nguyen’s first goal leveled the score, 1-1, in just the sixth minute.  The Richardson, Texas native finished on a deflected shot by teammate Blake Brettschneider, placing strong shot into the corner of the net.

Nguyen’s next strike came in the 72nd minute, giving New England the 4-1 lead.  From the left side of the field, 25 yards out, Nguyen controlled a throw-in and struck a half-volley into the far corner to tally his second goal of the night.

The goals were his first two of the season and his MLS career.

New York’s Kenny Cooper and Houston’s Brad Davis received five votes and two votes, respectively this week.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
