Atlanta United Selects Defender Donny Toia with First Pick in 2016 Expansion Draft
Minnesota United FC selects defender Chris Duvall with second pick
NEW YORK (Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016) – Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC continued to build their rosters ahead of their 2017 MLS debuts, selecting five players in today’s Expansion Draft. Atlanta was awarded the first pick through the Expansion Priority Draft and selected defender Donny Toia from the Montreal Impact. With the second pick, Minnesota chose defender Chris Duvall from the New York Red Bulls.
Toia, who joined Montreal in 2015, was a part of an Impact team that advanced to the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League final and to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Championship in 2016, where it fell to Toronto in one of the most exhilarating and high-scoring playoff series in MLS history. Duvall, one of the most solid right backs in the league, has been a consistent performer with the New York Red Bulls since 2014, recording 59 appearances while helping NYRB to consecutive first place finishes in the Eastern Conference in the 2015 and 2016 regular seasons.
Both Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC rounded out their selections with experienced MLS veterans and up-and-coming talent.  A full list of selections is available below.
